Norfolk Social Enterprise Sees Car Sharing Boom for Stranded Travellers

sen liftshare with borderHundreds of stranded people across Europe and even further afield have turned to car-sharing to get back home after their flights were cancelled due to Iceland’s volcanic eruption last week.
liftshare.com, which is usually only used for journeys round the UK, has seen people offering and seeking lifts from as far afield as Kiev, Helsinki, Latvia and Bulgaria.
The free website is also being used by people needing to get around within Europe, with journeys available for sharing including Cadiz in southern Portugal to Rzeszow in Poland.
“These last few days have seen a bit of a resurgence of the Blitz mentality, with lots of people offering their spare car seats to other stranded travellers,” said Norfolk-based Ali Clabburn, founder of liftshare.com. “It’s been fantastic for us to see how many people are using the site.
“People are wanting to car-share home as it’s one of the most affordable options, as well as being quick, direct and providing company through foreign countries which could be quite intimidating to drive through alone.”
The site can also be used to find others to share a taxi journey.
